Flexiv Robotics Inc. today announced that has partnered with Kurabo Industries Ltd. The Santa Clara, Calif.-based company said it plans to integrate its force-control technology with Kurabo’s KURASENSE 3D vision sensing technology to develop the KURAVIZON adaptive robot.

“The KURAVIZON system is a testament to Flexiv’s commitment to expanding our global presence by delivering cutting-edge automation solutions,” stated Owen Wu, Flexiv’s business development manager for the Asia-Pacific region. “This partnership with Kurabo allows us to merge our joint expertise and push the boundaries of what’s possible in robotic automation.”

Kurabo responds to customer requests

Driven by increasing inquiries from research institutions and manufacturers for advanced automation, Kurabo sought to enhance its laboratory and factory automation capabilities. Founded in 1888 in Okayama, Japan, the company began as a textile producer and has since evolved into a diversified conglomerate with interests in chemical products, food services, and electronics.

Since then, Kurabo Group has expanded globally with a presence in six countries including Brazil, Thailand, and Indonesia. Today, it is a leader in high-speed image processing and 3D measurement technology. Kurabo employs 3,899 people on a consolidated basis.

Kurabo’s Advanced Technology Division offers factory automation, inspection, and measurement devices. With its expertise in color and image processing, the company developed the KURASENSE 3D vision system to automate processes that are difficult to achieve with conventional automation.

After an extensive research and testing phase, Kurabo found Flexiv’s Rizon series of seven-axis robots proved to be a match for its KURASENSE system. The companies said the partnership demonstrates their commitment to innovation.

Flexiv says Rizon plus KURASENSE will serve industry needs

Founded in 2016, Flexiv described itself as a “general-purpose robotics company dedicated to developing and manufacturing adaptive robots.” The company claimed that it has integrated industrial-grade force control, computer vision, and artificial intelligence to deliver systems that enhance efficiency while reducing operational costs and environmental impact.

The Rizon series has a payload capacity of up to 10 kg (22 lb.) and force sensors enabling precision measurements down to 0.03 newtons. Flexiv said it has designed the robots for applications requiring precision, flexibility, and seamless human-robot collaboration.

The company asserted that the integration of its Rizon platform with Kurabo’s KURASENSE technology, which functions as both the “eyes” and “brain” of the system, will help Japanese companies that require high accuracy, adaptability, and cost efficiency. The KURAVIZON robot will be available starting Jan. 10, 2025.

Flexiv has established offices in Silicon Valley, Shanghai, Beijing, Taiwan, and Singapore. It also said its strategic partnership with Kurabo will help it “become a truly international brand.”
