Startup Flexxbotics joins MassRobotics to improve cobot utility

August 11, 2021 By Steve Crowe Leave a Comment

Flexxbotics

Flexxbotics, a Boston-based robotics startup, is now a resident of MassRobotics, an independent, non-profit organization serving as an innovation hub for robotics and connected devices. MassRobotics’ mission is to help create and scale the next generation of successful robotics and connected device companies.

Flexxbotics, a spinout of Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), focuses on improving robot utilization and efficiency to shorten a customer’s return on investment. The company said it does so through productivity tools on its Flexx Connect platform, including the Flexx Reference and Flexx Beacon that help reduce complexity and setup time when repurposing a robot. You can watch videos of both products below to learn more.

The company currently focuses on collaborative robots from Universal Robots (UR). Flexxbotics, a UR+ certified partner in North America, also recently launched in Europe with its platform becoming available in Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Hungary. Here is a case study about how Flexxbotics helped shape how Port Erie Plastics uses cobots.

Flexxbotics plans to use MassRobotics’ resources and network to develop its new platform.

“We are focusing on enabling these collaborative robots, or cobots, to be more efficient, dynamic and simpler to operate. The more we solve these issues, the less cobots are idle, the better the cobot ROI becomes and the more manufacturers invest in automation,” said Flexxbotics CEO and co-founder Tyler Bouchard. “MassRobotics gives us access to robots, CNC machines and an amazing network of like-minded individuals, investors and corporate partners to help us accelerate this mission. We are excited to be residents and look forward to fully utilizing everything they have to offer.”

Flexxbotics recently received funding from the WPI Commercialization Fund. The funding will assist in Flexxbotic’s research and development in expanding the Flexx Connect platform.

“Through our programming and events, we help bring together innovative startups and existing technology organizations to nurture the next generation of talent, and promote economic growth and innovation,” said Joyce Sidopoulos, MassRobotics’ vice president of programs & community and co-founder. “By working with diverse local talent, we are helping to bring about the next global evolution of robotics. Flexxbotics fits well into the ecosystem of MassRobotics with their focus on both robotics/connected devices and the stage they are at as a startup.”
